The president’s cue card says
the sun will rise tomorrow,
but this is not the same sun
that rose yesterday.
This one is overcast,
leaden, swelled upon by
trivialization.
The weather man says
the sky will clear in four years,
but my bones may not survive
this swampy heat
and scorching rays
set upon my skin by
the deepest red this sun
has ever seen.
